Joseph Chaikin Is Dead at 67; Actor and Innovative Director

Goodness, has it been that long? Tonight's Tony Awards didn't come as too much of a surprise to those of us who saw the Drama Desk Awards several weeks ago. Then, as now, it was Hairspray all the way, including Marissa Jaret Winokur over Bernadette. Even the acceptance speeches recycled some of the material from the Drama Desks. But it sure was slim pickins in the musicals department this year - apart from the revivals and Hairspray, there wasn't much to choose from for Best Musical. I turned to D'Arcy just before Best Musical was announced and said - What do you think? A tie between Amour and Frog and Toad? Maybe next year we'll see Bounce and Assassins go head to head for best musical. Could be very cool...
